This month sees the first anniversary of the creation of This Little Thing Called Life. Those eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that there are several posts dating from a few years back, but they were in fact published within the last year and I simply backdated them to when they were originally spawned. I’m pedantic like that.
What started out as Stewie On Life with a few random travel, dating and email hacker articles has evolved to what you see now; a site that is officially ranked 4,276,610th in the world by Alexa.com. I’m nearly lost for words. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to break into the top 5 million websites out of, probably, 2 trillion websites currently in cyberspace.
And to all the Canadians out there, I salute you! You’ve helped to make this site 102,809th most popular site in your country. And for that, I can finally forgive your country for giving birth to Alanis Morissette, Celine Dion and Bryan Adams – his song ‘Everything I do, I do it for Stew’ stayed at number 1 in the UK singles chart for SEVENTEEN WEEKS DAMN IT! As a teenager, this was in a time before I could distract myself with online porn news or happy slapping. They hadn’t been invented yet. We had to listen to that annoying love song, again and again and again… But that’s all forgotten now, the mental scar has healed as if touched by the hand of David Icke. I love Canadians and I intend to tour Canadia one day, once William and Kate stop hogging the limelight.
Unbelievably I have managed to published 85 posts. That’s an average of 7 per month with over 200 comments, which are all gratefully received. After a poorly publicised first 4 months, resulting in a trickle on hits, I learned more about what the hell I was playing at, and subsequent months meant that the hits have grown to more than 10,000; quite respectable for a blog that is never going to float everyone’s metaphorical boat. In fact, I take great pride in the fact that complete strangers do seem to appreciate my sense of humour and observations on life. I’ve never even had a negative comment. Maybe those double ‘ard bastard vibes that I’ve been perfecting at the ‘cockney for beginners’ classes do actually work.
So what does the future hold for This Little Thing Called Life? Well, undoubtedly there will be some more dating disasters to write about. Why are they always so popular? You love reading about my misfortune, don’t ya? Twisted fuckers. There will definitely be some more attacks on unsuspecting spammers. They deserve it and I feel that it’s my public duty to fight spam with more spam. Plus, it cracks me up! There may also be some surprises. So, for this first year, I thank you one and all for looking at my posts with your eyes. They are beautiful eyes. Has anyone ever told you that?
I don’t know if I can forgive Canada for inflicting Bryan Adams on us .. that ‘song’ you mention about was and still is awful. Happy anniversary – I’ve heard it all now, celebrating blog days ..
Thanks – don’t worry, it won’t happen every year, but the first is the sweetest.
Wow, never thought I’d hear a Canadian say it, but yes those love songs did become a pain. Congratulations. Love your blogs and your humour. Many more successful years to you
Thanks so much. Canadians… such nice people. 🙂
Cheers me old china! Shall we Jaegerbomb to celebrate?! Keep tinkering on that keyboard. And I think we, your adoring public, are eager to read of a truly terrible date 😉
Jaegerbomb? Get them in then!
You float my metaphorical boat! Happy Bloody Birthday Blog!
Glad to know! I like to be a metaphorical boat floater. 🙂
Wow congrats for making it to your 1st anniversary! That is a great achievement….i”ve just started my blog so I hope that I can have what it takes like you do to make it 🙂 And also your global ranking is awesome too…..thanks for sharing the knowledge about that Alexa.com website. I checked out my blog on that website and i am ranked 9,989,382 hahaha At least I’m within the top 10 million 😛
Top 10 million? I think that when I first looked, 3 months in, my blog was ranked around the 17 million mark!
Congratulations. Love your blog and your humor–call me a twisted chick.
Thanks very much twisted chick. 🙂
Well done! Now you have one year under your belt, on to bigger things!
Thanks, let’s hope so!
I like having beautiful eyes. Thanks 😀 Happy Anniversary then!
Thanks for reading!
Congratulations, sweetheart! You’ve made it to your first year without stopping (many people pack it in after six months, according to TimeThief) and you’ve made it to the top 5 million on the Alexa ranking. I just had a look at my rating for the first time ever and I’m at around the 8 million mark after 2 years of blogging. I’m a slow burner, but I’m getting there. As a fellow Londoner, I look forward to many more of your amusing musings.
Thanks! I’m surprised that your site is lower down the ranking than mine! You may have noticed that it is on my blogroll as I think it is one of the best out there. Actually, that probably makes me feel better about my hits. I guess that sites like ours are not mainstream enough to have large audiences, but the regular readers are appreciative and that’s what counts.
Happy anniversary and well done, I’m just starting out but hope to still be here next year 😉
Thanks. I will check out your blog. Hope you are still around next year.
Happy anniversary! Keep posting! We love what you write!
Thanks and I am glad that you like my posts!
Happy belated blog anniversary!
Thanks. I hope one day to have your level of traffic!
